Hien Quan residents find income from kapok tree mistletoe

In Hien Quan commune, specifically within Mieu hamlet, residents have discovered a significant source of income through the harvesting of mistletoe growing on ancient kapok trees along the Red River dikes.

While these large kapok trees were historically used for timber or viewed as mere windbreaks, the mistletoe they host has recently gained commercial value. Local elders note that while the plants were once used only for medicinal teas, they have now become a lucrative “heavenly gift” for the community.
