Hifikepunye Pohamba opens community library in Okanghudi

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba has established the Hifikepunye Pohamba Centre, a community library and education hub, at his residence in Okanghudi. The facility is designed to support Namibian government efforts to provide children and the wider community with access to quality education and digital resources.

The centre is equipped with books, photocopying facilities, free Wi-Fi, and 10 computers provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture. It includes a dedicated children’s section to provide a safe learning environment for young children while their mothers utilize the facility for study.

During a visit to the centre, Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare praised the initiative as a courageous contribution that aligns with the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP 6) regarding human capital development and inclusive education. Ngurare called on the private sector and other stakeholders to support and emulate such initiatives.

In addition to the library opening, Pohamba advocated for the government to establish regional care centres for people with disabilities and homes for the elderly to ensure vulnerable citizens receive adequate support and dignity.
