Higüey Municipality invests RD$130.8 million in new waste management fleet

The Higüey Mayoralty has acquired 16 new vehicles and pieces of equipment to strengthen solid waste collection, transport, and management services. The investment totals RD$130,848,001, representing approximately 15.4 percent of the municipality's approved 2026 budget of RD$850.5 million.

The acquisition was funded through a combination of municipal resources and central government support. The Higüey City Council provided RD$85,848,001 (65.6 percent), while the central government contributed RD$45,000,000 (34.4 percent). Mayor Karina Aristy announced the expansion during a ceremony at the Basilica of Higüey.

The new fleet includes 10 Mitsubishi compactor trucks with 11-cubic-yard capacities, two multifunctional hooklift trucks with 20-cubic-yard boxes, three JAC K3 dump trucks with 22-cubic-meter capacities, and one 3.5-cubic-meter Forland dump truck. The purchase also includes a discharge ramp system to optimize operational times. This acquisition exceeds the initial 2026 Annual Procurement Plan, which had estimated RD$103.5 million for 13 vehicles.
