Higüey political leaders join PLD in major shift
A significant political shift is occurring in Higüey, La Altagracia, as more than 200 political leaders previously associated with Senator Rafael Barón Duluc, known as ‘Cholitín’, prepare to join the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
The official swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, at the La Altagracia Polideportivo. The event will feature prominent national and provincial figures from the PLD. Among those joining the party are former councilwoman Magalis Reyes, former council candidate Frank Ignacio Guerrero Castillo, and councilwoman Noemí Delgado Ruiz.
Frank Ignacio Guerrero Castillo, who previously ran as a council candidate for the PRM in the 2024 municipal elections, has formally resigned from his former organization. He was received by PLD President Danilo Medina and intends to work toward the PLD reclaiming the Higüey Mayoralty in 2028. The movement represents a notable restructuring of local political influence in the eastern region of the country.
