Higüey woman dies after stabbing during family dispute

A woman identified as Jafreisy Martínez Areché has died following a stabbing incident in the Leonel Taveras residential area of La Otra Banda, Higüey. The victim, who had recently turned 36, was reportedly wounded in the thigh during an argument with her sister-in-law, Rafaela Carpio Báez.

After the altercation, Martínez Areché was transported by her husband to the Clínica Cedano, where she later passed away. Authorities have taken Carpio Báez into custody, and the Public Ministry is expected to request coercive measures against her.

The National Police, the Homicide Department, and the Public Ministry are currently conducting investigations to reconstruct the events and establish exact responsibilities for the fatal incident.
