High blood pressure rates in England prompt focus on monitoring
New research from Oxford University, utilizing data from the Our Future Health programme, indicates that more than one-third of adults in England live with high blood pressure. The study found that 59% of those with the condition are unaware of their diagnosis, and only half of the individuals being treated by a GP have their blood pressure adequately controlled. Researchers noted that current guidelines may contribute to a ‘leaky cascade of care,’ where many cases remain undiagnosed or inadequately managed due to primary care workloads.
In response to the need for better monitoring, Huawei has launched the Watch D3, a smartwatch featuring a medical-grade inflatable cuff designed for continuous blood pressure monitoring. The device allows for 24-hour auto-monitoring and can generate ambulatory blood pressure reports for medical professionals. Beyond blood pressure, the wearable tracks other health indicators including heart rate, arrhythmia, and sleep patterns.
