High Blood Sugar and Dehydration Linked to Brain Health Problems

Elevated blood glucose can harm the brain by causing inflammation, damaging neural connections and impairing memory, concentration and decision‑making. Repeated spikes or drops in glucose increase the risk of cognitive issues, and some researchers refer to Alzheimer’s disease as “type‑3 diabetes.” Doctors advise three simple habits: eat balanced meals with protein, fiber and healthy fats; walk briefly after eating; and get enough sleep to stabilise glucose levels.

Insufficient hydration produces similar brain‑related symptoms. Mild dehydration leads to headaches, fatigue, dry skin, dizziness and reduced concentration. Early signs include thirst, dark urine, dry mouth and lips. Water supports temperature regulation, digestion, blood flow and brain function. Regular intake of water and water‑rich foods such as cucumbers, tomatoes and watermelon helps maintain optimal hydration and cognitive performance.
