High Court hearing: Well-known man seeks injunction against ITN and Guardian

A well-known individual has approached London's High Court seeking a permanent injunction to prevent Independent Television News (ITN) and Guardian News & Media from publishing serious allegations regarding his conduct.

The claimant, who has been granted anonymity, denies the allegations, which include claims of sexual offences committed over several years in both professional and personal contexts. His legal team, led by Sara Mansoori KC, argues that publication poses a severe risk to his life, citing his history of serious mental health issues, including two recent suicide attempts and a period of involuntary detention.

ITN and Guardian News & Media are opposing the injunction. Their legal representatives argue that the proposed reporting does not trigger specific protections under the European Convention on Human Rights that would necessitate restraining publication, suggesting instead that practical mitigations could protect the individual.

High Court judge Mr Justice Nicklin noted that the case is expected to be controversial regardless of the outcome. A full trial to decide the matter is scheduled for late October.
