High Court of Balearic Islands rules Spanish language is not marginalized in schools

The High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands has ruled that the Spanish language is not being marginalized within the islands' public education system. The court rejected a lawsuit filed by a group of parents who demanded that a specific public school be required to conduct 25% of its classes in Spanish. The judges noted that there is no legal right establishing such a specific percentage and affirmed that the teaching of Spanish is already guaranteed within the existing educational model, which allows individual centers to establish their own linguistic frameworks.

Separately, the Balearic Ministry of Education and Universities, through the Balearic Institute of Educational Infrastructures (IBISEC), has announced significant investments in school facilities. The government plans to inaugurate two new educational centers in Menorca and complete six expansions across Mallorca, Ibiza, and Formentera this year, supported by an investment of 24.8 million euros. Furthermore, the government intends to tender or begin new renovation projects valued at 47.6 million euros before December.
