Bandar Utama school murder trial: Teenager expresses remorse

A 15-year-old boy on trial for the murder of a 16-year-old female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama has expressed remorse in court. After the prosecution established a prima facie case, the teenager chose to provide an unsworn statement from the dock, stating he was sorry for the incident and the resulting death.

The defense is seeking to support a claim of unsoundness of mind under Section 84 of the Penal Code. Expert witness Dr. Ian Lloyd Anthony from Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta testified that the accused has suffered from mental illness and delusions for approximately five years. The defense argued that the teenager's condition has undergone progressive deterioration.

The incident occurred on October 14, 2025, in a school toilet. While the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code typically carries the death penalty, the Child Act 2001 prohibits capital punishment for offenders under the age of 18. Cross-examination of the psychiatric expert is scheduled to continue on August 26.
