High Judicial Council of BiH calls for end to political pressure on courts

The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV) of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a call for political and media actors to cease attempts to influence judicial proceedings. The statement follows media reports and statements from political representatives regarding the actions of Judge Gordana Marić of the District Commercial Court in Banja Luka in a case involving RTRS and BHRT.

The VSTV emphasized that judges must make decisions independently and impartially based on law, facts, and evidence. The Council warned that any pressure on the court or individual judges violates the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically the principles of the rule of law and the separation of powers. Furthermore, the Council stated that attempts to discredit judges and judicial work undermine public trust in the justice system and create a false sense of insecurity regarding legal protections.
