High school athletic programs face season starts and weather delays

Various high school athletic programs are navigating season starts and challenges. The Carmel football team, coming off a 47–0 win against Fishers, prepares for a Week 2 matchup against Westfield. This game serves as a potential opportunity for revenge following a 20–23 overtime loss to the Shamrocks in last year’s IHSAA Sectional Championship.

In Manchester, the football team faced a difficult season opener against Fayetteville. Despite a competitive first quarter, the Greyhounds struggled with fatigue due to a small 14-player roster, ultimately losing 36-0. The Rockets' victory was driven by four touchdown runs from senior Joey Padilla.

Meanwhile, the Carmel boys soccer team, the defending state champions, has faced delays due to torrential rain and flooding. The weather forced the cancellation of their first two scheduled games against Zionsville and Pike. The team is also managing transitions following the graduation of key senior goalscorers.
