High school football season openers feature multiple victories

High school football season openers saw several competitive matchups. In a Class D South game, the defending champion Winthrop Ramblers defeated Lisbon 34-3. Despite a slow start and an early injury to senior running back Ross Fichthorn, Winthrop dominated the second half. Carter Rand and Tristyan Ortiz each recorded two rushing touchdowns to secure the victory.

In another matchup, Wells secured a narrow 14-13 win over Winslow. Brady Godin scored two long touchdowns, and Wells' defense halted a critical two-point conversion attempt in the final 35 seconds of the game.

Additionally, Cony overcame a late deficit to defeat Fryeburg Academy 25-21 in a Class B North opener. A late touchdown pass from Drew Lindquist to Oliver Odom with under three seconds remaining sealed the win for the Rams. In Class A North action, Oxford Hills defeated Windham 34-14, led by Toby Oufiero’s rushing and passing performance.
