High school security incidents reported in Toronto and Maryland

Police in North York, Toronto, responded to reports of a possibly armed individual near C. W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute for two consecutive days. On Wednesday, a report of a person with a gun was made, and on Thursday, a similar report occurred. In both instances, the individual fled before officers arrived. These reports follow a recent fatal shooting of a student, Cashie Auguste, in the vicinity of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West, for which a 16-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder.

In Montgomery County, Maryland, a student was arrested and a firearm was recovered following an armed robbery at Northwest High School. The incident prompted the school to enter a secure status after a student reported seeing a gun in a bathroom. The suspect left the building and was apprehended away from the campus. No injuries were reported during the incident.
