Higher education leaders address institutional growth and technology

In Chile, Cristián del Campo has assumed the rectorate of Universidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH) following a period of financial restructuring. Del Campo, a Jesuit priest and commercial engineer with experience leading Un Techo para Chile and the Jesuit Migrant Service, aims to balance the university's traditional focus on humanities and social sciences with an expanding curriculum in engineering and technology.

In Mexico, UNAM Rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas emphasized the necessity of expanding public higher education to overcome economic and territorial barriers. During a lecture at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, Lomelí noted that while public institutions serve approximately 62 percent of the country's 5.52 million higher education students, expansion must be supported by adequate infrastructure, sufficient staffing, and sustainable financing to maintain academic quality and address technological transformations.
