Higher education leadership changes in Paraguay and Argentina

In Paraguay, Minister of Education and Science Luis Ramírez has appointed Hermenegildo Cohene Velázquez as the new president of the National Council of Higher Education (Cones). Cohene Velázquez, who currently serves as the Vice Minister of Higher Education and Science and is the rector of the National University of Itapúa, previously held the position of vice president within Cones. Under the new resolution, the president will follow ministerial instructions regarding monthly sessions and reporting. Cones is responsible for regulating and coordinating higher education policies, including the approval of academic programs.

In Argentina, the National University of Tucumán (UNT) held its first Superior Council session under the leadership of Rector Sergio Mohamed and Vice-Rector Horacio Madkur. The session included the incorporation of Aída Olmos as Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology. Mohamed called for continued dialogue and cooperation among the council members, noting that the current integration of representatives will remain in place until May 2028, while the rector and deans serve until 2030.
