Highway 1 reopens to limited travel through Fraser Canyon

Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon has partially reopened to limited travel following a closure that began on July 7, 2026, due to the Brunswick Complex wildfires. The reopening involves a two-kilometre section between the Alexandra Bridge and the Alexandra Tunnel, where traffic will operate using single-lane alternating patterns.

Drivers should expect delays of approximately 30 minutes and must be escorted by a pilot vehicle. Periodic full closures may occur daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to facilitate BC Hydro pole-restoration work, which includes the use of large cranes, blasting, and tree-felling. No stopping is permitted within the active work and wildfire-affected areas.

The Brunswick Complex, consisting of the Ainslie Creek and Brunswick Creek wildfires, remains out of control. The Ainslie Creek fire covers approximately 67,722 hectares, while the Brunswick Creek fire covers about 9,266 hectares. While some evacuation orders in the Fraser Valley Regional District have been downgraded to alerts or cancelled, rockfall remains a hazard in the area.
