Highway 97 remains closed between Summerland and Peachland due to the Bald Range wildfire, which continues to burn out of control. The closure has prompted officials to issue safety orders for the community of Summerland.

DriveBC is advising motorists to use Highway 33 to reach Kelowna or, for passenger vehicles only, the unpaved 201 Forest Service Road. Commercial vehicles are required to use longer paved highway detours. Penticton and District Search and Rescue (PENSAR) has warned travelers against relying solely on GPS, as apps may direct drivers toward difficult backroads around Chute Lake and Big Bear Lake.

PENSAR reported that on August 9, a driver became stranded in impassable terrain while traveling from Kelowna to Penticton. The rescue team noted that most local backroads require a 4x4 vehicle and urged travelers to research terrain and carry extra supplies, including food and water, before attempting unpaved routes.
