Highway 97 through Clinton to reopen following wildfire closure
Highway 97 between Clinton and 70 Mile House is scheduled to reopen to all traffic in both directions at noon on Saturday, August 15. The highway has been closed since July 24 due to the Pear Lake wildfire.
Evacuation orders for the Village of Clinton and 373 properties in TNRD Area “E” were downgraded to evacuation alerts as of 8 a.m. on Saturday. Between 8 a.m. and the noon reopening, the highway remains restricted to returning residents only.
While the road is reopening, the Pear Lake wildfire remains active. Drivers should expect speed reductions, potential traffic interruptions, and reduced visibility due to heavy smoke. Non-local drivers are prohibited from stopping along the corridor once it reopens, and exits or side roads will remain closed to general vehicle traffic, except for residents.
