Highway fires destroy cars in Austria and Germany, no injuries

On 13 June 2026, a car caught fire on Austria's L193 between Au and Damüls. The driver stopped, the vehicle ignited, and the volunteer fire service of Au, with about 20 members, extinguished the blaze. No one was injured and the vehicle was a total loss, with possible damage to the road surface.

The following day, 14 June 2026, a Mercedes compact‑SUV caught fire on Germany's A66 near the Schlüchtern Nord‑Flieden construction zone. The 74‑year‑old driver from Hamburg left the vehicle before it went into full flame. Fire crews cleared the fire, closed the lane for roughly an hour, and reported no injuries. Vehicle damage was estimated at €35 000 and road‑work damage brought total losses to about €45 000.
