Highway vignette prices to remain stable in Slovakia and Czechia
Transport authorities in Slovakia and the Czech Republic are moving to prevent automatic increases in highway vignette prices for motorists.
In Slovakia, Minister of Transport Jozef Ráž announced that highway vignette prices will remain at their current levels in 2027. He stated that the ministry does not wish to burden drivers with additional costs, noting that motorists are already facing significant expenses at fuel pumps.
Similarly, legislative efforts in the Czech Republic aim to abolish the automatic price adjustment mechanism that previously linked vignette costs to inflation. If passed, the annual vignette for a standard passenger vehicle would remain at 2,570 koruna starting in January 2027. While the government seeks to shift the burden of road maintenance toward heavy freight transport, opposition members have warned that removing the automatic valorization could result in a revenue loss of several hundred million koruna for the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
