Higinio Martínez elected President of the Mexican Senate

Higinio Martínez has been elected as the new President of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Senate for the third year of the LXVI Legislature. Martínez secured the position with 116 votes out of 117 senators present.

Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña criticized the appointment, labeling it an error and questioning the democratic processes used by the party to select its candidate. Noroña declined to attend the voting session, arguing that participating would validate a decision made without genuine consensus.

Noroña has called for greater transparency and more robust democratic mechanisms within Morena, specifically challenging the use of hand-voting to enforce party instructions. The leadership change follows a period of political maneuvering within the legislative body.
