Higurashi When They Cry announced new TV anime for 20th anniversary

A new TV animation for the series ‘Higurashi When They Cry’ has been announced to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the franchise. The production is scheduled to be part of a special program in June 2026.

Studio Deen, which handled the original series, will return to manage the animation production. Key voice actors, including Soichiro Hoshi (Keiichi Maebara) and Mai Nakahara (Rena Ryugu), are set to reprise their roles. The series, based on the original work by Ryukishi07 and 07th Expansion, is noted for its setting in the fictional Hinamizawa village and its blend of rural summer atmosphere with horror elements.
