Hiker rescued near Como after fall, aided by funicular and helicopter

On the evening of 20 July 2026, a hiker slipped and fell on the winding trail that runs alongside the historic funicular between Como and Brunate. The Alpine Rescue and Speleology Service of the Larian Triangle dispatched seven rescuers who first rode the funicular to an intermediate station, then continued on foot to the injured person. After stabilizing the hiker and providing first‑aid treatment, the team handed him over to the regional emergency helicopter (AREU) for evacuation. The operation was completed successfully, with the local transport company ATM providing the funicular to speed the response.
