Hikers injured in separate accidents at Mount Hoken and Mount Fuji

Several hiking accidents have been reported in Japan's mountainous regions. On August 9, a 55-year-old self-employed man from Aichi Prefecture was rescued from Mount Hoken in the Central Alps after a fall. The man, who was on a solo two-day trek, reportedly fell approximately 15 meters at an altitude of around 2,800 meters and sustained a right leg injury. He was rescued by a Nagano Prefectural Police helicopter and transported to a hospital in Komagane.

Separately, on August 8, two individuals were injured while descending the Fujinomiya route of Mount Fuji. A 49-year-old woman from Hiroshima suffered minor ankle injuries after slipping on rocks near the new 7th station. Additionally, a 59-year-old Chinese national suffered a serious heel fracture after slipping on rocks near the 9th station. Local police have issued warnings to climbers to exercise caution during their ascents and descents.
