Hiking destinations feature unique landscapes in Bavaria and Vorarlberg
The Bavarian Forest and the Vorarlberg region offer diverse landscapes for hikers, ranging from historical trails to unique geological sites.
The Pandurensteig is a 177-kilometer long-distance hiking trail stretching from Waldmünchen to Passau. The route features quartz columns reaching heights of over 30 meters near Viechtach, castle ruins such as Thierlstein and Weißenstein, and the Pfahl geotope. The trail is marked by a black curved saber on a red background.
In Vorarlberg, the Gottesacker plateau in Kleinwalsertal provides a distinct landscape at the foot of Hohen Ifen. Scientifically, the area is a former seabed from the Tethys Sea, where coral and marine remains from 125 million years ago formed limestone layers. Local legend attributes the barren, rocky terrain to a divine punishment following the mistreatment of a beggar.
