Hikone resident loses 11.5 million yen stolen from aluminum can

Police in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, are investigating the theft of 11.5 million yen from a 55-year-old man's residence. The victim had been storing the cash in 23 separate envelopes inside an aluminum can in his living room, having withdrawn the money in 500,000 yen increments.

The theft was discovered on August 22, though the money had been confirmed present on August 13. Notably, there were no visible signs of forced entry or ransacking within the home.
