Hilary Swank addresses criticism following pregnancy announcement at 52

Two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank has announced she is expecting her third child at age 52. Swank shared the news via an Instagram video featuring her husband, Philip Schneider, and their three-year-old twins, Aya and Ohm. The baby is expected to arrive in December.

During an appearance on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’, Swank addressed the public scrutiny and criticism regarding her decision to have children later in life. She highlighted a perceived double standard, noting that “women face a lot of criticism for having children later in life, but men do not.” Host Drew Barrymore agreed, pointing out that men often father children well into their 80s without similar judgment.

Swank also recounted a personal encounter with a critic who questioned her right to have children at her age, expressing concern that she would not be present for them as they grew up. Swank responded with empathy, drawing on her own experience of losing her father in 2021. She stated that she would rather have experienced the joy of having a loved one, even if the time was limited, than to have never experienced that connection at all.
