Hildon Chaves shifts Rondônia campaign strategy

Hildon Chaves, a candidate for the governorship of Rondônia, has announced a shift in his campaign strategy following poor performances in the first two debates. Chaves attributed his recent difficulties, including a perceived lack of the combative profile he displayed during his time as Mayor of Porto Velho, to potential long-term effects from contracting Covid-19 multiple times.

Chaves stated that he believes the illness may have caused issues with concentration and memory, noting that he served on the front lines of the pandemic response. As part of his new approach, he indicated he may not attend every scheduled debate.

In recent interviews, the 58-year-old candidate has adopted a more personal persona, referring to himself as the “tiozão” (uncle figure) to emphasize his experience and human limitations. This shift toward a more spontaneous and less rehearsed communication style has reportedly led to a significant increase in social media engagement for his campaign.
