Hillary Clinton celebrates birthday and reflects on political career

Hillary Rodham Clinton, born October 26, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, is celebrating her birthday. Her extensive political career includes serving as First Lady of the United States, a U.S. Senator from New York, and U.S. Secretary of State under the Obama administration.

A graduate of Wellesley College and Yale Law School, Clinton focused her early legal career on child advocacy and family welfare. During her tenure as First Lady, she was notably active in healthcare reform and child health insurance initiatives. She also gained international recognition for her 1995 speech in Beijing, where she stated that women's rights are human rights.

Clinton made history as the first former First Lady to be elected to the U.S. Senate, representing New York from 2001 to 2009. She also became the first woman to be nominated for president by a major American political party.
