Hillston sheep sales show strong demand for Merino ewes
The Riverina spring store sheep selling season has commenced at Hillston with strong market performance. A yarding of approximately 4,000 head, primarily consisting of 2025-drop Merino ewes, saw top prices reaching $495 per head.
Nutrien's Geoff McDougall noted the market was “very strong,” highlighting that high-quality stock attracted significant interest from both physical attendees and buyers on AuctionsPlus. The smaller yarding size reflects current industry needs for more ewes to support breeding programs.
Notable sales included 353 Merino ewes from Ballatherie Pastoral Co, which sold for $495 each. Other pens of 2025-drop ewes ranged from $300 to $495, while older ewes fetched between $325 and $370.
