Hilvarenbeek outlines vision to preserve village character

The municipality of Hilvarenbeek has outlined its environmental vision, ‘Samen gezond groeien’, which focuses on maintaining a recognizable village character through the year 2050. The plan emphasizes that new housing and business developments must integrate naturally with the local community to preserve unique identities shaped by local streets, buildings, and heritage.

To prevent villages from becoming indistinguishable, the vision mandates that new construction considers local materials, building heights, and aesthetics. The strategy prioritizes building within existing village boundaries to protect rural areas, though it allows for higher-density housing, such as apartments, to meet the needs of various demographics including youth and seniors.
