Himachal Pradesh doctor suspended after patient death in Una

The Himachal Pradesh government has suspended Dr. Priyanka Sharma, a medical officer at Regional Hospital in Una, following the death of a 33-year-old patient. Reena Devi, who had been admitted for delivery on October 7, passed away on October 9.

According to official orders, Dr. Sharma, who serves in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, allegedly absconded from duty following the incident. The government stated she failed to appear before a preliminary inquiry committee and had switched off her mobile phones.

A medical inquiry committee, led by Senior Medical Officer Dr. Vikas Chauhan, has been tasked with submitting a report within three days. Due to the potential for law-and-order issues at the hospital, Dr. Sharma was suspended under the Central Civil Services Rules and has been ordered to remain at the Directorate of Health Services in Shimla during the investigation.
