Himachal Pradesh IPS officer Sanjeev Gandhi faces second FIR

A second First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Himachal Pradesh cadre IPS officer and Deputy Inspector General of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi regarding alleged financial irregularities. The charges involve the diversion of government funds intended for the repair and maintenance of police buildings and personnel residences during his tenure as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Shimla.

An audit conducted by a committee from the Police Headquarters examined expenditures totaling approximately Rs 1.28 crore between 2022-23 and 2024-25. The audit found that Rs 14,07,392 was recorded as expenditure for Gandhi’s official residence, ‘Southwood’, despite no sanctioned budget or prior approval from competent authorities.

The report also flagged the diversion of Rs 2.80 lakh sanctioned for a Sub-Divisional Police Officer’s residence in Rampur to the SP’s official residence. Additionally, Rs 2.50 lakh earmarked for repairs to a guard post at the Shoghi police barrier was allegedly redirected to the SP’s residence, with the audit finding no evidence that the repairs at Shoghi were ever completed.
