Himachal Pradesh officials announce medical college updates and Kishau dam revenue

Himachal Pradesh officials have announced significant developments regarding state infrastructure and revenue. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed the status of the Hamirpur Medical College, stating the project was approved in 2014 during the Manmohan Singh administration rather than being a BJP initiative. Sukhu noted that the state government has allocated Rs 450 crore for the project and expects it to be operational within two months. Additionally, the college will host North India’s first cancer institute, supported by Japan at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore, alongside a planned super-speciality block.

Separately, Minister Jagat Singh Negi announced that the state is set to receive approximately Rs 1,200 crore in annual revenue from the Kishau multipurpose project. Under the current agreement, the Central government will bear 90 per cent of the dam's construction costs and the costs of power generation. Negi claimed this arrangement protects the state's financial interests compared to previous proposals that would have required Himachal Pradesh to bear the full expenditure for power generation.
