Himalayan mountaineering featured in new films

Several new films focusing on Himalayan mountaineering have recently premiered or been showcased at international festivals. Apple TV has released ‘Tenzing’, a biopic directed by Jennifer Peedom that follows the life of Tenzing Norgay, the yak herder who, alongside New Zealander Edmund Hillary, became one of the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.

Additionally, National Geographic and Little Monster Films have presented ‘Everest: the Other Side’, directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi. This documentary explores the human cost of extreme climbing, specifically examining the risks and motivations of high-altitude adventurers, such as skier Hilaree Nelson. Other notable mountain-themed productions include Amir Bar-Lev’s ‘The Last Great Climb: K2 in Winter’.
