Himanta Biswa Sarma honors victims of 1947 Partition

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to the victims of the 1947 Partition on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. In a social media statement, Sarma remarked that the nation must never forget the pain and loss caused by the forced partition imposed by the Muslim League, which resulted in the deaths of countless innocent people.

He noted that the day serves as an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives during one of the most painful events in the history of the Indian subcontinent. Sarma highlighted that the 1947 partition caused one of the largest mass displacements in modern history, characterized by communal violence, displaced families, and immense suffering on both sides of the newly formed borders.

The Chief Minister called on citizens to remain committed to protecting national unity and security against forces that threaten the country. He emphasized the importance of learning from the past to move forward.
