Himanta Biswa Sarma to join BJP Nagaon campaign and inaugurates Jorhat facilities

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced he will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) campaign for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll after September 15. The election is scheduled for October 6, with results expected on October 9. The BJP has fielded former Nagaon District Commissioner Devasish Sharma as its candidate. Current party preparations are being led by State BJP President Dilip Saikia and Minister Pijush Hazarika.

In Jorhat, Chief Minister Sarma also inaugurated a new state-of-the-art Integrated District Commissioner’s office and administrative block, alongside the Cinnamara Railway Overbridge. During the ceremony, Sarma noted that the new facility represents a move away from colonial-era structures, citing a request from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transition away from institutions that reflect British legacy. The new complex is intended to centralize administrative, health, and educational services for the public.
