Hindu activist Mohan Gowda booked for false claims about Kunal Kamra show cancellation in Bengaluru
Bengaluru police have registered a suo motu FIR against Mohan Gowda, state organiser of the Hindu Rashtra Samanvaya Samiti, for allegedly spreading false information on social media about the cancellation of comedian Kunal Kamra's show. The complaint was filed by Police Constable Sridhar of the Whitefield division after monitoring posts that claimed the show at the Whitefield pub URU had been cancelled. Kamra’s performances, originally scheduled for August 3‑6, were later shifted to Koramangala following protests by Hindutva groups. Gowda was charged under Sections 217 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for circulating false information and causing public mischief. No arrests have been announced. The case underscores tensions between right‑wing activist groups and performers whose material is deemed offensive to Hindu sentiments.
