Hindu temple in Bangladesh vandalized ahead of Durga Puja
Seven idols, including the primary statue of the goddess Durga, were vandalized by unidentified individuals at a Hindu temple in the Mirzapur upazila of Tangail district, Bangladesh. The incident occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday morning at a temple managed by the Jamurki Arya Samiti, which has observed Durga Puja at the site for approximately 85 years.
The idols were nearly complete, with only the painting stage remaining, when the damage was discovered. Prakash Bakali, president of the Jamurki Arya Samiti, stated that a formal complaint has been lodged with the police and called for the identification and prosecution of those responsible.
Local law enforcement, including Tangail Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar and Assistant Superintendent Adnan Mustafiz, visited the scene. Authorities confirmed that some idols were partially damaged and stated that an investigation is underway to identify the culprits. Increased security measures have been implemented at the site.
