Hindustan Aeronautics Limited prepares maiden flight for indigenous naval helicopter
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is preparing for the maiden flight of its indigenously developed Utility Helicopter-Marine (UH-M), which is expected to take place around November. The twin-engine helicopter is specifically engineered for shipborne operations to meet the requirements of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.
The UH-M is intended to replace the aging Chetak helicopter fleet currently used for naval utility and support. The development follows a Ministry of Defence Request for Information for 76 naval utility helicopters, consisting of 51 units for the Indian Navy and 25 for the Indian Coast Guard. The aircraft is designed to withstand the unique challenges of maritime environments, including corrosive conditions and limited deck space.
