Hindustan Zinc deploys 30 electric trucks for green logistics
Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a six-year transportation contract with MFL India Limited to deploy 30 electric trucks for concentrate transportation. The initiative aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of the company’s mine-to-smelter logistics network by replacing conventional diesel vehicles with electric alternatives.
The electric trucks will transport zinc and lead concentrates from the Rampura Agucha mine in Rajasthan, one of the world’s largest underground zinc mining operations, to smelting facilities. To support this transition, MFL India Limited will establish and operate dedicated EV charging infrastructure along the industrial route to ensure reliable electric mobility.
The company is implementing a phased transition to manage the high capital requirements of emerging technologies like electric vehicles and LNG. This approach is intended to maintain the participation of local drivers within the transportation network while improving industrial competitiveness through cleaner logistics.
