Hino Australia maintains market optimism despite challenges
Hino Australia remains confident in its future position despite a “challenging” truck market characterized by high fuel prices, interest rates, and low consumer confidence. President and CEO Richard Emery noted that 2026 has not met initial expectations due to these economic pressures and a significant market contraction over the last two years.
Despite these headwinds, the company is seeing success with its heavy-duty 700 Series, which has averaged a record 100 retail sales per month since June. Hino also expects a recovery for its light-duty 300 Series as supply issues related to the transition to Euro 6 compliant vehicles are resolved. Emery anticipates that the local freight task will grow in the medium term, driving demand for fleet expansion and replacement.
