Hipódromo de La Plata launches sculpture contest for Dardo Rocha trophy

The Hipódromo de La Plata, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts at the National University of La Plata (UNLP), has launched a provincial sculptural ideas contest. The initiative, supported by the Instituto Provincial de Lotería y Casinos, seeks to select an official statuette for the Gran Premio Internacional Dardo Rocha, the most significant horse racing event in the Buenos Aires province.

The winning design will serve as the official trophy for the race winners and will also be produced as a monumental replica to be permanently displayed in the Hipódromo gardens.

The contest is open to artists over 18 residing in the province of Buenos Aires, who may participate individually or in groups. Three finalists will each receive 2 million pesos, with the absolute winner receiving an additional 6 million pesos plus the production of their work. A jury composed of Cristina Tomsig, Oscar de Bueno, and Mariel Ciafardo will evaluate the submissions. Interested parties must register online by September 25.
