Hipólito Mejía discusses Carolina Mejía and Santiago Matías

Former President Hipólito Mejía has commented on the political landscape in the Dominican Republic, specifically addressing the popularity of Mayor Carolina Mejía and the political ambitions of businessman Santiago Matías, known as ‘Alofoke’. Mejía stated that Carolina Mejía holds an 82% approval rating in the Distrito Nacional.

Regarding Matías and the potential creation of the ‘Dominicanos Primero’ party, Mejía suggested that entering politics is not a simple process and advised patience. He criticized Matías’s communication style, noting that “diciendo malas palabras no se llega a ningún lado” (saying bad words gets you nowhere). While acknowledging that new figures should be allowed to attempt to enter the political arena, he emphasized that political involvement requires demonstrating commitment through actions.

Mejía also addressed the Dominican youth, urging them to maintain faith in the country, strengthen family values, and cultivate national pride.
