HIQA begins review of Irish residential care standards for older people
The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has announced a review of person-centred care and international standards for residential services for older people in Ireland. This initiative aims to update the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People, which were last published in 2016.
The review will account for significant sectoral changes over the last decade, including legislative reforms, the transition toward larger residential settings, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the update will address digital transformations and technology-enabled care, such as the requirements of the European Union Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act 2024.
