Hiroki Akimoto is set to challenge Jonathan “The General” Haggerty for the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title on Saturday, October 17. The bout will serve as the main event of ONE SAMURAI 4 at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena.

Akimoto, a former champion and the first Japanese fighter to win ONE kickboxing gold, returns to title contention following a three-fight winning streak. This comeback follows a difficult period in his career where he suffered three consecutive losses, including defeats to Petchtanong Petchfergus, Wei Rui, and Ilias Ennahachi.

Akimoto noted that the losing streak tested his identity and led him to question his career, but he maintained his training and mindset with support from his family and teammates to rebuild his position within the promotion.
