Hiroshima arena project aims to host concerts on over half of annual operating days

A business plan has been presented for the construction of a new arena near the north exit of JR Hiroshima Station. The project aims to resolve the “Hiroshima skip” phenomenon, where major concert tours pass through cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka but bypass Hiroshima due to a lack of suitable facilities.

During the second consultative meeting, JR West and the Hiroshima Dragonflies proposed a plan to allow live performances and concerts on at least 149 of the 232 annual operating days. The project targets an annual attendance of 1.6 million people. The arena is scheduled to open in fiscal year 2031, with JR West expected to provide estimated project costs at the next meeting.
