Hiroshima Carp manager Takahiro Arai to remain for fifth season

Hiroshima Toyo Carp manager Takahiro Arai will remain in his position for a fifth season next year, despite having submitted his resignation three times during a turbulent season. Hiroshima owner Matsuda confirmed the decision to the press, stating that Arai is the only person he can imagine leading the team to unity.

The team's fourth year was marked by significant off-field controversy following the arrest of Ryutaro Hazuki in January for violating the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Act involving a substance commonly referred to as ‘zombie tobacco.’ During legal proceedings in May, Hazuki revealed that six individuals, including himself, had purchased the substance, leading to intense criticism of the club.

Arai reportedly expressed his intention to step down on three separate occasions: once in early February following the arrest, again in late May as the scandal intensified, and a third time in mid-June when meeting with the owner. Despite the team finishing in the bottom tier of the standings for the third consecutive year, the club leadership chose to retain Arai due to his strong influence within the organization. Arai has ultimately decided to accept the responsibility of leading the team through its current challenges.
