Hiroshima Carp player Kounosuke Tatsumi sets NPB stolen base record

Hiroshima Toyo Carp player Kounosuke Tatsumi has set a new NPB single-season record for stolen bases achieved specifically as a pinch runner. After joining the team via the active draft, Tatsumi appeared in 71 games, recording 28 stolen bases.

During an appearance on ‘Professional Baseball News 2026’, Kenji Tomashino praised Tatsumi’s performance, noting that his speed provided a bright spot for the Carp this season. Tomashino encouraged Tatsumi to improve his batting to secure a regular starting position and expressed hope that he would eventually aim for the stolen base title.
